Hello everyone. I’ve written before about using the web for projects. This month I’d like to introduce two sites that are made for webquests. A webquest is similar to a treasure hunt. It requires students to visit several websites to find information. However, a treasure hunt asks students only to find answers to quiz questions. A webquest requires students to look more carefully at the websites and to use the content in making a report or presentation. Teachers can make webquests quite easily by setting a topic and providing students with a list of links. By choosing the sites, we can limit the amount of content students encounter and we can help them from getting “lost” in cyberspace. I’ll be introducing two webquests in this column, but you can find more information and even a tool for authoring webquests at The Webquest Page hosted by the Educational Technology Department at San Diego University. http://webquest.sdsu.edu/

A health and fitness webquest is our first site. It is a more standard type of webquest with a clear progression and uncluttered interface.

Our next site is a resource for a Thanksgiving webquest. It is a more open type of webquest in that it really is just a collection of links and it is up to the teacher or students to set a task. The site also features many quizzes and so could be used to make a treasure hunt as well.
