========================□■
Hi and welcome to the June Treasure Hunt. This month we are really going to look at some real treasure. The 11h annual Webby Awards were recently announced and this month I’d like to introduce some of the winners to our readers. The entire list is available at http://www.webbyawards.com/webbys/current.php?season=11 where all the nominees and winners in the dozens of categories can be found. I’ll pick up a few that I thought could be used to make interesting language lessons (or interesting experiences for students).

First is the KFC site that won for best restaurant website. It is an interactive movie and listeners need to make choices along the way, choices that affect how the story develops. It’s a very nice interactive listening activity. The only problem is that it is commercial. KFC is trying to get us to buy something. http://clients.fcb.com/webby/kfc/

The next site, How Stuff Works, was the winner in the Education category. It’s kind of a Wikipedia for…well…how stuff works. Ever wonder how Bluetooth works? How about how casinos work? Or how about how hangovers work? Well, detailed explanations and often video can be found at this site. Bookmark it now. It’s a really great resource.

The last one I want to introduce is Welcome to C-Ville, an interactive exploration with the aim of preventing kids from starting smoking (though the message is very subtle). The design is brilliant and the site is just really fun to play around in. You have to see it to understand it. http://www.ownyourc.com/

There are lots of other Webby winners and great sites available at the link above. Please take a look. It is a fun way to see what is happing on the web these days.

And finally an announcement for fans of podcasts for learning. Apple’s iTunes has just launched the iTunes University where anyone can access some great educational resources from American universities. The iTunes University can be accessed through the US music store. But here is a link explaining everything you need to know. http://campustechnology.com/articles/48339/

That’s it for this month. See you next time.
