Recently I have met many high school teachers. Only a few of themteach in classes that are online. This month’s column is especiallyfor those teachers, but also for other teachers who want to make useof offline activities available on the Internet for fun face-to-faceclasses. The sites this week allow users to print out games to use ingroups in class. Games can be a fun way to practice language and thesesites have some really good ones.
First up is site introduced to me by my colleague, MES English: FreePrintables for Teachers. This is a big site with lots of associatedsites that you really need to check out. There are lots of resourceshere―printable flashcards, worksheets, project and lesson plans, etc.The resources are almost all customizable. http://www.mes-english.com/At one of the related sites, 123 Listening, you can customizeworksheets to make activities to use for listening activities. You canalso download the audio. http://www.123listening.com/
At another related MES English site, you can find tons of ready-madegames with printable boards (and cards) ready to use(http://www.mes-english.com/games.php). Not happy using a ready-madegame? Make one yourself using the customizable templates of boards andcards with themes that include hearts, bubbles, honeycombs, and more.http://www.mes-english.com/games/boardgames.php
ESL Galaxy also has a lot of board games nicely organized byproficiency level and clearly labeled by topic. If you are looking fora game to practice a specific grammar structure, this is a good placeto look. http://www.esl-galaxy.com/board.htm
Our final printable game site this month is Lantern Fish. Here you canfind a single page with game descriptions and links. There is a widerange of games here. Some of the games are quite elaborate.http://bogglesworldesl.com/esl_games.htm
